Bringing the truth to Mormon's

What must I do to be saved?

Salvation, the topic is on everbodies mind, but few know the answer. In this Gospel tract we will compare what the Bible has said for us to have everlasting life, and also what the Mormon doctrine of Salvation has proclaimed.

Mormon Salvation:

"We know that it is by grace that we are saved, after all we can do," (2 Nephi 25:23).

"This grace is an enabling power that allows men and women to lay hold on eternal life and exaltation after they have expended their own best efforts" (LDS Bible Dictionary, p. 697).
There is no salvation without accepting Joseph Smith as a prophet of God, (Doctrines of Salvation, Vol. 1, p. 188.)

"As these sins are the result of individual acts it is just that forgiveness for them should be conditioned on individual compliance with prescribed requirements -- 'obedience to the laws and ordinances of the Gospel.'" (Articles of Faith p. 79).

Jesus' sacrifice was not able to cleanse us from all our sins, (murder and repeated adultery are exceptions), (Journal of Discourses, Vol. 3, p. 247, 1856.)

Helaman 12:24,26 “And may God grant, in His great fulness, that men might be brought unto repentance and good works, that they might be restored unto grace for grace, according to their works… Yea, who shall be consigned to a state of endless misery, fulfilling the words which say: they that have done good shall have everlasting life; and they that have done evil shall have everlasting damnation”

Baptism, the laying on of hands, public confession, accepting Joseph Smith as a prophet of God, living a very good life, after all of these things have been done, then God will give you eternal life, but not by faith alone, lets see what the Bible says.
(note) The Biblical response to Helaman: Romans 3:12 “There is none that doeth good, no not one”- Isaiah 64:6 “All our righteousnesses are as fithy rags in the sight of God”

The Mormons teach that Salvation is not by Jesus Christ alone, but by exausting all of your own efforts first, and then God will give you grace. This cannot be, the bible clearly states that Salvation is by grace alone through faith in the shed Blood of Jesus Christ on the cross of calvary.
Salvation by grace according to the Bible:
Ephesians 2:8-9 “For by grace ye are saved through faith, and that not of yourselves,it is the gift of God, not of works lest any man should boast”

For by grace are ye saved: grace is something we don’t desurve, and cannot be earned. Through faith: only faith can take away your sins, faith in Jesus’ shed Blood. And that not of yourselves: not of yourselves means exactly what it means, nothing we can do can save, help save, or keep us saved.

It is the gift of God: a gift is something you reach out and take, if you had to do anything for a gift, it wouldn’t be a gift, would it. Not of works: Again, nothing YOU can do. Lest any man should boast: you can go up to anyone in Heaven and say, what did you do to get in here, no one will have a different answer that this, I trusted Jesus Christ as my Savior, I didn’t desurve Heaven, but God gave me the gift.

Titus 3:5 “Not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to His mercy He saved us, by the washing of regeneration, and renewing of the Holy Ghost”

1 Corinthians 5:21 “For He hath made Him to be sin for us, who knew no sin, that we might be made the righteousness of God in Him”

Romans 4:5 “but to him that worketh not, but believeth upon Him that justifieth the ungodly, his faith is counted for righteousness”

Romans 11:6 “And if by grace, then it is no more of works, otherwise grace is no longer grace, but if it be of works, it is no longer of grace, otherwise work is no more work”

Acts 16:31 “And brought them out, and said, sirs, what must I do to be saved? and they said, believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and thou shalt be saved and thy house”

John 6:47 Jesus said “Verily, verily I say unto you, He that beleiveth on Me hath everlasting life”

Romans 3:28 “Therefore we conclude that a man is justified by faith, without the works of the law”

By having to keep the Law of God to be saved, and you have to keep the entire Law, lets look at

James 2:10 “For whosoever shall keep the whole Law, and yet offend at one point, He is guilty of all” we all can try and live a good life, but the truth is we all have sin (Romans 3:23) every one of us, and all of our efforts are in vain (saiah:64:6), good works cant wipe them clean, only the shed Blood of Jesus can.

The word Gospel in it self means “Good news”, as you can plainly see here, the main theme of the Gospel is that it is all by grace, and not by our own works. God’s Salvation is for all who trust Jesus as their Savior, it is a gift, if you had to do anything for a gift, it wouldn’t be a gift would it, and if you had to do anything to keep a gift, it certaintly wouldn’t be one.

Mormon doctrine:
"The Father has a body of flesh and bones as tangible as mans; the Son also; but the Holy Ghost has not a body of flesh and bones, but is a personage of spirit. Were it not so, the Holy Ghost could not dwell in us.” Doctrine of covenants, 130:22
“God is a man” History of the church, page 305, verse 6

The Biblical response to this claim:
Numbers 23:19 “God is not a man, that He should lie”
1 Samuel 15:29 “And also the strength of Israel will not lie nor relent. For He is not a man, that He should relent”
Hosea 11:9 “For I Am God, and not man, the Holy One in your midst”
John 14:17 “The Spirit of truth, whom the world cannot receive, because it neither sees Him nor knows Him; but you know Him, for He dwells with you and will be in you”
Mormon doctrine:

“God is always changing” Journal of discourses, page 93 verse 1, pg 120 verse 6
The Biblical resonse to this claim:
Malachi 3:6 “For I Am the Lord, I change not”
Hebrews 13:8-9 “Jesus Christ is the same yesterday today and forever. do not be carried about with various and strange doctrines”

Mormon doctrine:
“There are three God’s” The teachings of the prophet Joseph Smith, pg 370,372

The Biblical response to this claim:
Deuteronomy 6:4 “Hear O Israel, the Lord our God is One Lord”
Isaiah 43:10-11 “And understand that I Am He, Before Me there was no God fomed, nor shall there be after Me. I, even I, Am the Lord, and besides Me there is no Savior”
Isaiah 44:6 “I Am the first and I Am the last; besides Me there is no God”
Isaiah 44:8 “Have I not told you from that time, and declared it? Is there a God besides Me? indeed there is no other rock, I know not one”
Isaiah 45:5 “I Am the Lord, there is no other; there is no God besides Me”
Isaiah 45:18 “For thus saith the Lord, who created the Heavens, who is God, who formed the Earth and made it, who has established it, and who did not create it in vain, who formed it to be inhabited: I Am the Lrd and there is no other”

Mormon doctrine:
“God the Father had physical intercourse with Mary” Journal of discourses pg 51 vs 1, Mormon doctrine page 547

Biblical response to this claim:
This is a very interesting statement, because it disproves the entire Mormon doctrine, if one part is wrong or contradictory, God did NOT write it. First off, the Messiah had a very strict guidline to follow to even be called the Messiah, one of the biggest prophecies that the Messiah would fulfil, would be that He would be concieved, and born of a Virgin.
Isaiah 7:14 “Behold, a virgin shall concieve and bear a Son, and shall call His name Immanuel” Immanuel meaning, God among us.
If the Messiah had not been born of a virgin, He certainly would not be called the Messiah.

Mormon doctrine:
“Without Joseph Smith, you cannot enter Heaven”
“no man or woman in this dispensation will ever enter into the celestial kingdom of God without the consent of Joseph Smith.” Journal of Discourses Vol 7 Page 289

The Biblical response to this claim:
John 14:6 “I Am the way, and the truth and the life, No man cometh unto the Father but by Me, if ye had known Me, ye would have known My Father who sent Me”
1st Timothy 2:5 “For there is one God, and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus”

Is Jesus God?
there are literally hundreds of passages in the Bible that clearly show that Jesus Christ isnt just merly a created being, but that He is the Creator Himself.
Colossians 1:16 “For by Him all things were created that are in Heaven and that are on Earth, visable and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or principalaties or powers. All things were created through Him and for Him”
John 1:1-3,14 “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God and the Word was God. All things were made through Him, and without Him nothing was made that was made… And the Word became flesh, and dwelt among us, and we have seen His glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father, full of grace and truth”
Isaiah 9:6 “For unto us a Chlid is born, unto us a Son is given; and the government shall rest upon His shoulder. And His name shall be called Wonderful, Counselor, Might God, Everlasting Father, Prince of peace.
Only three verses, and how clearly stated by scripture that Jesus Himself is the creator, the Mighty God.

What about the trinity?
Deuteronomy 6:4 “Hear O Israel, the Lord our God is One Lord”
The word God,used here in the Hebrew, means Elohim, and the definition of Elomhim is three. there isnt three God’s, as we have learned through this pamphlet, but God exitsts in three equal yet distinct persons.
The example I like to use, is water, water is the source of all life, and yet it has three parts, the three parts are equal, and yet have different jobs. but water is one unifiable life giving source
I ask you now, to trust Jesus Christ as your Savior, He shed His blood and rose again for your forgivness. pray something like this: Lord, I know I am a sinner, deserving of eternal hell, my sins have separated me from You, and the best that I know how, I put my trust in Jesus as my Savior, there is nothing I can do myself, because Jesus did it all, thank You for the free gift of eternal life.
